Students from TH Nuremberg on track for success with Auer Signal
The team EAGLE from the Technische Hochschule Nuremberg has won the Railway Challenge Germany 2025. On board: signal devices from Auer Signal, which supported the team in meeting the safety-related requirements.
Full signal power for success
This year, the team EAGLE from TH Nuremberg once again took part in the Railway Challenge. This international competition is aimed at students and companies who develop locomotives with a track gauge of 260 mm. Not only technical solutions are required, but also safe, creative and reliable overall concepts.
In 2025, the team EAGLE participated for the third time – and with great success:
They took first place at the Railway Challenge Germany and second place at the Railway Challenge UK.
It was their first time competing in the UK – and at the same time, their first-ever victory in Germany. Two outstanding results that made this project a real success.
Support from Auer Signal
For their new locomotive, the team was looking for signal devices that would meet strict safety requirements while also being robust, reliable, and weather-resistant. With products from Auer Signal, they were able to clearly and visibly implement the following functions:
- Operational readiness of the locomotive
- Fire warning
- Audible signal for track crossings
- Indicator for manual override of the mechanical brake
In addition to functionality, the durability of the devices was key. The team chose an ECO70 signal tower as well as a visual-audible combination consisting of the RCMM multi-color beacon and the RBA audible base. The high quality of the devices already impressed the team during the selection process – and in the competition, they proved themselves against wind and weather. Even the jury was impressed by the “weather test”.
A strong team with a clear vision
Despite exams and time pressure, the students professionally integrated the signal devices into their locomotive. The Railway Challenge jury was convinced – not only by the technical performance, but also by the well-thought-out safety concept.
“The light and sound signals from Auer Signal helped us meet all requirements,” the team EAGLE reports.
We congratulate the team on their first-place win in Germany and the fantastic second-place finish in the UK!
